“Behold the Lord slayeth the wicked to bring forth his righteous purposes. It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.”
(The Book of Mormon)

(young men that have been kicked out of the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints Church).
His older sister Miriam and her estranged husband, Jospeh, an ex-marine suffering from PTSD

The Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints

This is a story about faith
"Therefore I did obey the voice of the Spirit, and took Laban by the hair of the head...”
(The Book of Mormon)
Founded in 1913 by members of the Council of Friends, a breakaway group from the Salt Lake City-based The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). The Council of Friends membership desired a remote location where they could practice plural marriage, which had been publicly abandoned by the LDS Church in 1890.
On July 26, 1953, Arizona Governor John Howard Pyle sent troops into the settlement to stop polygamy in what became known as the Short Creek raid. The two-year legal battle that followed became a public relations disaster that damaged Pyle's political career and set a hands-off tone toward the town in Arizona for the next 50 years.
Miriam and Joseph fear the worst, that her brother Ryan has been murdered and his body disposed of by the church elders. Warren Jeffs Jr., son of cult leader Warren Jeffs, who runs the town on his dads behalf from prison, is their prime suspect. They befriend a few of “The Lost Boys” (the boys who Ryan was doing his story on before he went missing) but their investigation, getting no support and even some pushback from local law enforcement, quickly hits a dead end and spirals out of control; that begins with the kidnapping and torture of Joseph Wells Jr. and ends with eventual murder of the entire town.
Spoiler Alert: This is “hoodie horror.” The Lost Boys committed the murder and hid Ryan's body in the apple orchard to try and get back in the good grace of God and the church elders.
By the time Miriam realizes this it's too late, she is already fighting for her own life
And Joseph has already committed an atrocity.
